Design isn’t always achieved with pen and paper, that’s where it generally starts but, what if you have a blue print that you want to show to a group of people to explain a new building? All they are going to see is a group of lines and numbers. What if you want to tell a story in a 3 dimensional, rather than traditional flat animation style? What if you want to make your favourite space figthers come to life? Well there’s a simple answer, use a piece 3D software to create and bring to life that design, and that’s exactly what I have done. Have a look at some of the great projects I was fortunate enough to work on in the 3D world, and some I did for fun.

Mallaig Harbour Extensions

created with: Autodesk 3DS Max, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro

I was commissioned to create a 3D visualisation of a proposed harbour extension for the town of Mallaig on the West coast. I was given some simple PDF plans and left to get on with it. The final results were well received and I even created a video to accompany the still rendered images.

Helga Weiss - A Tale from Terrazin

created with: Autodesk 3DS Max, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro

Part of the Interactive Media Degree at UHI I had to create a 3D animation based on the stories that were told from the children of Terrazin during World War II. The project was a lot of fun even with such serious source material. It definately helped me to improve my understanding of the 3D design world.

Just for fun and practice...

created with: Autodesk 3DS Max, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro

Star wars is a great series with some iconic space craft, robots and battles, so what better place to take some inspiration from when practicing the art of 3D design. Let’s not tell Disney though, just in case...

Grampian Furnishers

created with: Autodesk 3DS Max, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro

I was asked by Grampian Furnishers to design a new look store for them, based on a very rough sketh. They wanted to use the images as a way of showing people what they had in mind for a new store in a new location. Although the design went down really well and had positive feedback they have since, obviously, been to a professional architect to have detailed plans drawn up and the new store should be built in Elgin sometime in 2018/19.
